cars I Have known: taa 122t morris marina 1300

The thing I remember most about this car was its distinctive number plate, which would probably be worth a few hundred quid now. This was the car that won us a prize on local radio as well - someone would go out on the road to look for a car with the radio stations' sticker on the back windscreen, If they read out your registration on the radio and you phoned in, you'd win a prize.

I distinctly remember hearing our reg being read out, and my Mum phoning up. I don't know what the prize was, although i do remember that i was listening to my 'Captain Beaky and his Band' record at the time in a different room. I was under four years old at the time you know.

I also remember the square door handles on the Marina, what was it with British Leyland and squares? The door handles lived on into the 1990's adorning the Range Rover. I've managed to find a nice picture of my brother and I in the back seat - I think this must have been a 'Last photo of the car boys, it's going today' picture, as the stickers have been removed from the windows. My Dad always made sure his cars went back absolutely immaculate, all cleaned and hoovered.

The rubber bumper Marina sure was ugly though, especially from the rear - but no where near as ugly as the 'new' model that replaced it, the pitiful Morris Ital.
